Congratulations to Noah Bunch (Drama) and Dannae Ryan-Kessler (Instrumental Music) for gaining acceptance to the Governor’s School for the Arts. Congratulations to Morgan Early, Tryphena Sithu, and Makda Araya for being admitted to the Governor’s School for Entrepreneurs. I would also like to extend my appreciation to Robin Cash, our College Access Resource Teacher, for coordinating the application process for our students.

Panera Bread Night!
Help support the Brown PTSA by eating a yummy dinner at the Panera Bread on Poplar Level Road! Bring the flyer on the last page of this message with you on April 19th from 4:00 to 8:00 PM and our PTSA will receive a portion of the proceeds from your purchase.
There is an unusually high number of students with recent unexcused absences. Be sure to continue to turn in excuse notes immediately upon returning to school following an absence.
Tennis, softball, baseball, middle school soccer, and track & field are now in season! Check our athletic calendar at http://www.mybrownschool.org/groups/15319/calendar?blockId=275234 for a complete schedule. Go Bears!
The SBDM Council will be meeting on Thursday, April 20th at 4:30 PM in the main office conference room. Meetings are open to the public. To enter the building, ring the bell at the main door on 1st Street near Muhammad Ali Blvd. and you will be buzzed in. Then proceed to the main office. The tentative agenda and other items are located at www.mybrownschool.org/sbdm.
Did you know that you can view all our SBDM policies online? Visit www.mybrownschool.org and scroll to the bottom of the page. There are links for all our current policies. New policies and revisions are updated on the website within 24 hours following a meeting.
The next PTSA general meeting is scheduled for 6:00 PM on April 18th in the auditorium.
PTSA General Membership Meeting: April 18th @ 6pm (School auditorium) There are still lots of important issues to be discussed in our final two PTSA meetings of the school year, such as approving expenditure of PTSA funds and discussion of how the recent school legislation could affect The Brown School. Be sure to attend!
PTSA Officer Opening for Ways and Means: Only one elected officer position is expiring at the end of this school year. We are looking for a Brown School PTSA member (i.e., parent, teacher, grandparent, staff, etc…) interested in serving as the Ways and Means VP. There will be a lot of experience remaining on the board next school year, so don’t be shy! Ways and Means (along with the Special Events Committee) manages established fundraising efforts and seeks out new fundraising ideas. Contact our Membership VP for more information. firstname.lastname@example.org
PTSA Minutes and Agendas: For transparency and the benefit of those who can’t attend the PTSA meetings, you can now find view-only meeting agendas and minutes by following the quick links on our website. http://www.mybrownschool.org/groups/27041
Read-a-Thon: Thank you to the K-5 parents, teachers and staff who participated in and supported the Read-a-thon. We are still tallying the results, but are estimating we approximately $2,500!
Spring Merchandise: Everyone should have received their orders by now. Thank you for all of your support! If you have not, please contact Ashley Ford at email@example.com.
Didn't order and bitterly regret your decision? We'll have new merchandise available in the Fall, but still have water bottles and car magnets for sale now.
Box Tops: Thank you for clipping, tearing, gluing, pasting, and whatever else you did to bring us your family's Box Tops. The Brown School will receive around $150 from our Spring drive, and Ms. Lisa and Ms. Niecie's classes won the pizza parties with a tie for most Box Tops collected! Keep saving your Box Tops to bring them in the fall year.

We are having an influx of students bringing blankets to school. Please make sure your student is leaving their blanket at home each day. These are not allowed at school.
A new police station is opening up at 400 S. 1st Street in the old Wellness Center location. As a result, the city will be removing all the parking meters on the west side of that block of 1st Street; there will be no parking allowed after that occurs. If you routinely park there when visiting our school, you’ll want to be on the lookout for a different parking location in the future.
As always, please do not park in the private parking lots behind our school building.
Yearbooks are on sale for $46.00! Go to yearbookforever.com and type in Brown High School.
After School Student Supervision
Our SBDM approved a new policy last year, the After School Supervision Policy, regarding students who are remaining after school unsupervised, who are not engaged in a supervised after school activity or who are not enrolled in the YMCA Childcare Enrichment Program (CEP). Instances of students being found after school unsupervised will be documented and reoccurrences may result in students being placed on probation at the school. Please make sure that your student is being picked up each day be 3:00 PM or is enrolled in CEP. To help with locating a carpool, our PTSA has set up a bulletin board on their page on our school website at http://www.mybrownschool.org/ptsa.
Morning Drop Off
Morning drop off begins each morning at 7:30 AM. Please do not drop off students prior to this time as there is not adult supervision in the building. Students cannot be left unsupervised at any time. No student should be waiting outside the cafeteria or library, as these locations do not open until 7:30.
The doors to the school are locked until 7:00 AM.
